French Meridian Acupuncture

Find French Meridian Acupuncture Training and Therapy in the United States and Canada. If you’re searching for a unique method of acupuncture, you may want to try French meridian acupuncture. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), French meridian acupuncture, also referred to as “French energetic acupuncture,” is widely used by medical acupuncturists, and is a technique that emphasizes meridian patterns; more specifically, the yin and yang of the focal meridians.

French meridian acupuncture is performed by a licensed practitioner, via the insertion of tiny hair-like needles in varied locations and patterns along the meridians (energy channels). A combination of both Eastern and Western medicine, this particular type of acupuncture is primarily facilitated as a complimentary treatment for chronic illness and injury. Known to influence the channels of energy that run within the body, French meridian acupuncture holds the common belief that acupuncture can relieve disease and pain by restoring balance between the two principle forces of nature – the yin and the yang.

Today, there are a number of professional Oriental medicine practitioners who practice French meridian acupuncture and other forms of acupuncture, in addition to Traditional Chinese Medicine as integrative treatment to patients around the world.

In order to become a licensed acupuncturist, it is essential that candidates acquire the appropriate education and training through anyone of the many acupuncture schools and colleges available today. While some schools focus primarily on 5-Element Acupuncture, there are a variety of academic programs that incorporate an assortment of modalities including French meridian acupuncture, as well as Korean hand acupuncture, auricular acupuncture (ear acupuncture), myofascial acupuncture, and Japanese acupuncture.

In general, licensed acupuncturists who practice French meridian acupuncture, as well as other Chinese medicine therapies must be credentialed by having completed at least three to four years of Oriental medicine training, in addition to prerequisite education from an accredited college or university.

Natural Hormone Balance With Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

Our bodies’ hormones exist in a delicate balance with one another, and correcting imbalances can be a tricky thing to achieve. In order to understand what exactly we are dealing with, let’s take a closer look at our endocrine system, the bodies’ messaging system. Then we will further examine how Chinese Medicine can help to balance the female hormones in order to address a variety of common women’s health disorders.

The Endocrine System Creates and Distributes Messages

Our Endocrine systems are a fascinating and complex thing to look at. What is the function of this system? The endocrine system is comprised of a series of glands whose job is to produce and distribute hormones. Hormones are one of of our bodies primary messaging systems, and they coordinate our body’s physiological activities, much like a symphony conductor coordinates all the musical instruments to create a harmonic performance.

Our key players are the Hypothalamus and the Pituitary gland. This pair of glands regulates the other glands of the body including the adrenals, thyroid, and sex organs. The Hypothalamus and Pituitary team up with several different key glandular players to form multi-functional “Axis'” that work to regulate very important processes of the body. Here are the three major axis’ and their functions:

Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Gonad-Think ‘Reproduction’

Regulates male and female reproductive systems. Problems with this axis include infertility, menstrual irregularities, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, sexual dysfunction and menopausal problems.

Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Thyroid-Think ‘Metabolism’

Regulates metabolism and energy production and usage. Fatigue, weight gain, emotional disorders, anxiety, and insomnia and heart palpitations indicate problems here.

Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal-Think ‘Stress & Digest’

Regulates a wide variety of activities including stress response, digestive function, immunity, emotions and energy. Problems with this axis may present as fatigue, IBS or other organ functional disorders, insomnia, emotional disturbances, and alcoholism.

TCM View of Hormonal Effects

Chinese Medicine developed a different twist on the perspective of hormones and where they come from. The endocrine system is the basic equivalent of the Kidney system in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). It is responsible for maintaining functions related to genital, urinary, endocrine, bone, blood and central nervous system. The Kidney is our most basic energy source and is primarily responsible for reproduction, growth and development of the body.

How Can Chinese Medicine Help With Women’s Hormonal Balance?

Chinese medicine excels at balancing the hormones of the women’s body and is an effective treatment for regulating menstrual disorders, treating menopausal symptoms, and addressing infertility. It is also great for addressing mood swings, stress, low libido and poor energy.

Treatment begins with a full heath intake in which we formulate a Chinese medical diagnosis and then go from there. Every woman’s body is different and will be treated in an individualized method, unlike Western medicine where a specific health disorder is treated the same with each patient. For example, an irregular menstrual cycle could stem from several different patterns depending on your body and what is going on with you. I will identify your unique pattern and treat you in a …

'Daoist Health Preservation Exercises' By Bian Zhizhong – A Review

Chinese anti-aging and longevity expert Bian Zhizhong looks to natural treatments to restore youthfulness and prolong healthy life in 'Daoist Health Preservation Exercises' (1996) from China Today Press. He explains why these are more effective than traditional Western methods before setting out in easy-to-understand detail, practical methods and routines with complementary drawn illustrations for those interested to follow as part of a relatively short text (144 pp) but one jam- Packed with sound practical advice.

Never judge a book by its cover, 'they say. However in this case the aforementioned, showing two Cranes walking to and fro with outstretched necks, should not be ignored. The Crane, a Chinese Longevity symbol, has good habits that help make it long-lived, These include Qigong practice. Safe in their mountainous, forested retreats Cranes walk to and fro with necks outstretched calling out 'He' forcibly exhaling stale air after a long day's flying and feeding many miles away– then the Crane's is 'He' in Chinese. They are also associated, via 5 Elements Theory, with Water and the kidneys, since the association between the latter and good health and longevity made by Bian Zhizhong at various points in his text.

The author initially laments the fact that exercise and sport are not, by themselves, conclusive to longevity, pointing out that even athletes and manual workers may age quickly and die young. "How can we restore youthfulness?" (P.15) he requests, when medicines, drugs, hormone therapy, organ transplants etc may upset the body's natural balance and cause illnesses to develop as a consequence (p.19). These disturb the immune system's natural pattern of hormone production essentially associated with the kidney-the resulting imbalance making us more prone to disease and sickness than before.

The body's internal and external performance and overall health are, he argues, best improved by Qigong practice combining breath control, exercise and external self-massage focusing on the 'xiadan' or lower abdominal area of the body (front and rear). The kidneys, intimately associated with internal and external watty secretaries are essential to healthy growth, development and aging. Strong kidney vitality means long life and good health and weak kidneys early, fast aging and a short lifespan the author states (p.17) before presenting details of the preventive and remedial activities of the Huashan Mountain Daoist Qigong School (to which he belongs) Which focus on this area in particular.

Exercises fall into three categories: i. Rhythmic Breathing (eg Restoring Spring p.19); Ii. Exercise Routines (eg Dragon Swimming p.32) and iii. External Self-Massage (eg Rubbing the Dragon's Head p.93). Regular combined practice of these for general health and fitness purposes, as part of a regular exercise routine, should cause noticeable improvements to various bodily functions within a relatively short time (my own experiences indicate that this is so).

The author then proceeds to list commonly occurring chronic conditions and / or areas of ill-health and assigns to each a prescription of routines drawn from i) to iii) above. This is interspersed with 'vignettes' taken from case-records of such treatments in action …

Health Benefits of Lychee Tea

The lychee is a tropical and subtropical fruit tree, which is primarily found in Asia, Southern Africa and Mexico. It is a fragranced fruit with a sweet taste. The fruit is 3 to 4 cm long and 3 cm in diameter. The outside is covered by a pink-red, roughly-textured rind that is inedible but easily removed by hand as one who eats the fruit peels the fruit individually. They are eaten fresh from harvest from the tree, while others make it into desserts with added honey and most often they serve this concoction chilled. It is a favorite dessert fruit of many diners.

The Chinese consider the lychee, which is a red, heart-shaped fruit, a symbol of romance and love. And they make the lychee tea out of it. This tea offers a strong, pleasantly sweet aroma. The reddish brown brew has a light, sweet honey-like taste. This is s a treat served by the Chinese whether hot – or over ice.

Tea-drinking is a usual ritual in almost all occasions in Chinese society. Ceremonies are usually done with the tea as the drink served. There is no occasion in China where tea is not present, especially in dinners which are long elaborate occasions enjoyed by the food-loving Chinese. Such sumptuous dinners usually end with the tea-drinking, as it is believed that tea is the best drink that can help in the digestion of the food intake of the diners.

Even in hotels – the guests are normally greeted in their rooms when they first check in with the usual tea container and the tea cups, along with the fruits that are in season. The lychee fruit is of course one of the fruits available for the hotel guest to enjoy as a welcome treat.

Lychee tea, like the other kinds of tea in Chinese society, is believed to be good for one’s health. Well, considering that there seems to be no obese Chinese at all, there is logic in their drinking of tea. Even with lavish Chinese meals that they indulge in, the lychee tea and other kinds of tea help in maintaining their good physiques.

The good news for other countries now is that lychee tea is now available for other nationalities. The British are into tea-drinking; maybe Americans should also learn the art of tea drinking. Perhaps, this tea drink, instead of the colas and other fattening drinks now taken by the young, should be the drink really of all people – young and old alike. The health benefits of lychee tea included – cannot be overemphasized.…

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month – Show Support

We All Get Lost Sometimes

We all get emotional ups and downs once in a while. However, mental health conditions go beyond temporary emotional reactions and often become something that is here to stay. Such a condition affects the way we conceive ourselves, the way we love or hate, the way we behave, and the way we perceive others. There is a variety of complex contributing factors to the cause of this state, such as:

  • heredity
  • stress
  • childhood abuse
  • neglect
  • brain injury
  • loneliness

These can affect people of any age, gender, educational level, and cultural background. Sad enough, minority groups’ representatives are less likely to have any access to proper treatment. Understanding the issue in its various forms is the best way to get involved, educate, and create awareness.

Why Counseling Awareness is Important?

Mental health issues of minority populations are a major concern for health experts in the United States. While each year millions of racial and ethnic groups face this problem, they continue living with the condition and are less likely to go for treatment because of the countless barriers in terms of access to healthcare. Instead of getting help from medical specialists, they approach priests, for example. Another factor is the fear that they are going to be treated wrong, stereotyped, and discriminated against. This stigma is further aggravated by social oppression. Language barriers can also decrease their motivation to look for help. Poverty not only intensifies existing health conditions, like depression, but also prevents people to look for any kind of help. And above all, due to poor education, they are unaware of how this condition can affect their lives.

Counselling for awareness among priests and pastors is quite needed as most minorities will be more likely to contact a clinician only if advised by a clergy member.

The Purpose of National Minority Mental Health Month:

To highlight the need to promote public awareness and improve access to treatment among culturally and socially sidelined communities, each July we observe National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Minority populations have less access to any kind of resources, even if there are available. This month is the perfect opportunity for all types of organizations to create awareness in diverse communities, by hosting a variety of events and activities across the country each year.

Increase Awareness:

Help the minorities receive diagnosis and treatment for their issues. Awareness brings attention to the inequalities and needs of various communities.

Write your own blog post on the subject with up-to-date statistics and facts, including information on where minority representatives can find counseling and help.

Volunteer and help someone out by sharing their story, listening to their feelings, and encouraging them to manage stress.

There are organizations out there that work to create awareness among minority communities. Join any of them and learn how to become an advocate for yourself and your community. Isn’t that what a “community” is all about?

Host a local screening event. Arrange counseling on treatment options and …

How A Hair Transplant Surgery Changed My Life

Let me take a minute to share some of my history with you. As of this writing I am 39 years old and I live in Los Angeles. My hair loss started at the age of 22 and slowly progressed. All of the younger guys reading this, trust me, I know how you feel and believe me when I tell you that there is hope for a good set of hair on most of you. Anyways, I always was self conscious about my receding hair line and in the early 90’s started to interview doctors within the general Los Angeles Area. You name them, I can tell you I had interviewed them, I have been to Bosley, Dr. Wolf, Dr. Meshkin, Dr. Rassman, Medical Restoration Center, and many others which I do not recall. Looking back, I was so lucky not to have a surgery done at that time because If I had I most probably would have doll hair plugs sticking out my head.

So at the age of 35 I got married and settled down with my beautiful wife. I started to truly notice I was losing my hair at the age of 36. It was pointed out to me by someone at my work since he was my upstairs neighbor looking down at my crown area.

I decided then and there to stop my hair loss and change my appearance forever, to the better. So, again I started my research online for months. I read articles, visited websites and talked to patients. In my research one name came up over and over again, “Hasson and Wong” based out of Vancouver Canada. . In almost every forum they had positive reviews over and over again from patients who had transplant procedures done by either Dr. Wong or Dr. Hasson. After 4 months of research I decided that Hasson and Wong was the one for me. Why did I decide on Surgeons out of the United States? Simple, they were one of the best, if not the best in the entire world and a Hair transplant is a life changing surgery. You cannot hide a hair transplant, once it is done thats it, your stuck with it for life. So, traveling 3.5 hours from where I lived to their office to have transplant work done by the best was a no brainer for me. I would travel to China if the best doctors were located there.

But which physician, Dr. Wong or Dr. Hasson? Everywhere I read they both had equally good reviews, one did not stand over the other in their skills or practices as a surgeon. One day, I read Jatronics blog, who is a past patient of Dr. Wong’s and who also works for Hasson and Wong presently. On his site he described in detail his own hair loss experiences and why he chose Dr. Wong and his entire transplant procedure with Dr. Wong. After reading that post, I decided Dr. Wong was the one for …
